The 52nd annual Grammy awards is set to take place on January 31,2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and CBS will broadcast the event. A total of 109 awards is to be presented at the Grammy awards and Neil Young will be honoured as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the year on January 29, two days prior to the Grammy telecast. Beyonce leads the nominees with ten nominations.
Other nominees include Taylor Swift with eight and Black Eyed Peas, Maxwell, Kanye West with six nominations and David Guetta, Jay-Z and Lady Gaga with five nominations. Colbie Caillat, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, T-Pain And Keith Urban each received four nominations. In the Best Rap /Sung Collaboration T.I. & Justin Timberlake’s, “Dead and Gone” is the front runner to get that award. Kanye West & Young Jeezy, “Amazing” which was also the anthem for the NBA playoffs is by far the best song in the “Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a Group” category and Eminem’s “Beautiful” is the front runner in the “Best Rap Solo Perfomance”. The leaders in the “Best Rap Song” and “Best Rap Album” are “Run this Town(Jay-Z, Rihanna & Kanye West)” and “The Renaissance(Q-tip)” respectively.
The Recording Academy is set to honor the late Michael Jackson with a tribute during the Grammy telecast. It will feature a 3D mini movie that was designed for his “This is It Tour” of his song “Earth Song”, which has never been seen before but will be seen for the first time at the Grammy awards.
